Learning About Habitats

This is a direct link to a science activity on different characters and their habitats. The students will explore and be aware of a variety of habitats and what lives there as stated in one of the science expectations. You may print out the page and have your child draw a line to match the character with the proper habitat or you can just discuss it with your child.

Shape Invasion

This link allows students to practise shape recognition by identifying two dimensional shapes as described in the math expectations. Students are to move the shapes at the bottom of the screen by clicking on a shape and dragging it to the correct spot. The shapes falling from the sky must be aligned correctly with the shapes at the bottom of the screen.

Learning to Count

Here is a fun and interactive way that students can learn to recognize numbers and count from 1 to 10 as described in the math expectations. Students need to hold down the mouse and drag it until they reach the fruit and then bring the cartoon’s arm into the basket. Each time he collects a fruit he says the number according to how many he has collected.You can use the cubes to help your child practise their counting before starting the game.

This picture is directly linked to the science and technology expectations of investigating various materials that have different properties and predicting whether they would sink or float. We will be conducting this experiment in class and I will be asking the children which items they think will float and which ones they think will sink and why. The students will show the results of the experiment through illustrations.

Caring for Baby

Here is an interactive game you may wish to play with your child. Your child will enjoy caring for the little one in daycare while learning to use the mouse on the computer. This activity will help enforce the science and technology expectation of investigating and using familiar technological items.

Easter Eggs

We will be discussing Easter in regards to new life and the significance of Easter eggs. This link describes how you can make colourful Easter eggs with your children. I thought this would be a good way to have the students engage in the topics that will be discussed in class as well as a good activity for students to enjoy with their families.

Rockin Rabbit

This is a link to a game called, Rockin Rabbit. The students are to put the pieces of the puzzle together. This fits in nicely with our upcoming science and religion themes: Spring/Easter. Students can put the pieces of the puzzle together by clicking and holding on a piece of the puzzle and dragging it over to where they think the piece belongs. When they have placed it correctly they will hear a clicking sound.click here

This particular link will take you to a page where you may read a 'minibook' to your child about the letter of the week.You may also choose to print out the book for your child.

Welcome to Senior Kindergarten Students!

Hello Students,

My name is Mrs. Machado and I will be your teacher this year! We will be having a lot of fun this year learning many new things such as letters, numbers, sounds and reading short 2 and 3 letter words. Our class will also be learning through centre activities such as language, math, science and drama centres to help you remember all the cool things you learn! The class will also have circle time. During circle time we will talk about the calendar, the weather, read stories, sing songs, play games, have show and tell and much more!

Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to Mrs. Machado’s Senior Kindergarten Class. This year will be full of fun-filled learning experiences for your child. Kindergarten is a time for learning through exploration. Your child will have many opportunities to explore in the classroom through play, hands-on activities and educational computer software. The children will learn to make connections between concepts taught in class and learn to apply them to their own real life experiences, hence making their overall learning experience a very successful one. To help ensure that our days run smoothly I am going to ask that parents/guardians please check the children’s agendas daily. The agendas will be our mode of communication throughout the year. This website will also be up for you and your child. It will be updated regularly with links that pertain to lessons being taught in class. Please have your child look and participate in the activities provided to help extend what has been learned in class. At times resources and/or activities will also be posted to introduce upcoming themes to be discussed in class.
